So, I had yesterday all planned. I had worksheets and homework. I had a brilliant plan to get them to review and study themselves, without me leading the class. The lecture from the day before wore out my patience for that. Then nothing was copied.
I think I handled it pretty well. The class activity was a big table of all the gas laws. I made myself a small one for a cheat sheet as I was giving notes, and it occurred to me it might help some of my students. It has columns for the gas law name, corresponding demonstration, equation, changing variables, constant variables, and the really important column: kinetic molecular theory and gas characteristic connections. To improvise, I made a big version on the board for them to copy. It took longer, kept me at the front of the room longer, but it worked. They all had trouble with the last column, so we will spend a little more time on it.
They got no homework. Another reason I couldn’t give the quiz today; they hadn’t had enough practice.
